The Future of Search: Microsoft's Bing Will Be Bigger than Office.

Will AI-Powered Bing Chat be a Business Standard?

šŸ“° The Current Trend:

Google Chrome has been the most popular web browser since May 2012. It has around 50% of the market share for web browsers, followed by Safari, (34.7% - Apples built in web browser), Microsoft Edge (<6), and Firefox.

There are many reasons for Google Chrome's popularity, the main one being that it is notoriously fastā€¦ or at least it used to be. You see, when Google Chrome released in 2008, the competition in the web browser market was minimal. Many users used Internet Explorer, the browser default in Microsoft Windows or Safari. Google Chromeā€™s release was quite minimalist. This combined with itā€™s speed quickly made it a popular favorite among ā€˜techierā€™ crowds. This pushed Google Chrome onto business desktop and laptop computers as the default search engine.

Since Google Chrome dominates the web browser marketplace and Google pays an exorbitant amount of money to Apple to be the default search engine for Safari users, it is no wonder why Google processes around 1.2 trillion searches per year.

šŸ¤– The Future: Search Engines that Work for You.

We are in the midst of a digital revolution. The proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how we interact with the world around us. In particular, AI-driven search engines are revolutionizing how we access information.

Gone are the days of sifting through countless pages of results to find what you're looking for. Search engines like Bing are now using AI to provide more accurate and targeted results. This is especially beneficial in the workplace, where time is often of the essence.

AI-driven search engines work by understanding the user's Intent. This means that they can provide results that are more relevant to the user's needs. For example, if you are looking for a solution to an issue you are having, Bing can now simply provide you the solution without the need for you to click through numerous articles, videos, and blogs.

This is a major shift from traditional search engines, which simply match keywords to results. This often resulted in a lot of irrelevant results, which wasted the user's time.

AI-driven search engines are also constantly learning. This means that they get better over time at understanding the user's Intent and providing relevant results. In Microsoft Bingā€™s update blog post about the beta pilot program they highlighted this by saying:

Your feedback about what you're finding valuable and what you aren't, and what your preferences are for how the product should behave, are so critical at this nascent stage of development.

āš™ļø The Simple Migration to Bing.

As mentioned above, businesses started rolling out Google Chrome as the default browsers to employees which drove people to get used to it and made it quickly become ā€˜theā€™ web browser for your home computers and mobile devices.

Many businesses are still using Windows operating system which comes preinstalled with Microsoftā€™s Edge browser that now runs on Chromium (The underlying codebase for Google Chrome). Now that Edge runs on Chromium, it receives all the same benefits of Google Chrome, but enhances them even further. Microsoft Edge can tie into businesses Microsoft 365 accounts and link everything from their OneDrive, Word and Excel documents, emails, calendar, reminders and more all in one placeā€¦ Microsoft Edge. Now all of these different systems, that Microsoft has been the king of for decades, all get an enhancement with the new AI-powered search of Bing. This is a major advantage in the workplace, where employees need to be able to find information quickly and easily. With an AI-powered search engine, they can be confident that they're getting the most relevant results possible and stay in the ā€˜single pane of glassā€™ that integrates with their company email. This does pose a new question of the security of such ā€˜featuresā€™ for business use. Let me know if youā€™d like me to discuss these in another post by replying to this email.

Overall, AI-driven search engines are providing a major boost to productivity in the workplace. They are able to understand the user's Intent and provide relevant results quickly and easily. This is a major advantage for any business that wants to stay ahead of the competition.
