Arc has unveiled its newest pure electric boat, the Arc Sport.

Key Specs:

• Starting Price: $258,000

• 226-kWh battery

• Can go for 24 hours straight at low speeds

• For faster speeds, you will have 4-6 hours of fast, active use, including towing.

• 80% charge in ~45 minutes

• 570hp

• Take delivery starting in late 2024

Smart… Boats?

The Arc Sport website talks about Smart Boating and discusses how ‘advanced software’, ‘modern user interfaces’, and ‘Over the air’ updates are what make it smart.

Does that qualify as smart to you?

When I think of ‘Smart,’ I think of assistant.

Smart requires a voice-activated assistant like a Google Home, Alexa, and, dare I say it…. Siri (Despite the rumors of a massive Siri update coming soon).

The Big EV Issue

Arc discusses that the ownership of the Arc Sport is effortless because the “electric powertrain requires next-to-no maintenance, costs significantly less to operate, and delivers unmatched reliability.”

That’s great and I agree that this is the general experience of an EV owner.

Until it’s not.

The first issue or accident you have with any electric vehicle is just the beginning of the worst migraine you’ve ever experienced.

Tesla, Rivian, and other EV manufacturers do not have a great track record of having their maintenance process down.

If something were to happen to my Tesla Model 3, it would need to be towed 2+ hours away to the nearest Tesla Service Center. Tesla has a mobile tech team, which has been great with the minor things I needed help with immediately after purchase.

Arc doesn’t seem to have a support center if you need help with one of their products. So, if you purchase this quarter of a million-dollar boat and have issues, you may once again be left with a major headache.
